Meet the Maker: Asheville Chocolate

Asheville Chocolate (formerly Chocolate Gems) changed hands with a handshake over a backyard fence. The couple that had opened the shop over a decade earlier were ready to retire and commit to full-time grandchild spoiling, so a conversation with their chocolate-loving neighbors Zach and Melissa turned into a lengthy apprenticeship in the art of chocolate-making and finally an official change of ownership.  The road to chocolatier excellence was a challenging one, but fortunately even the mistakes were delicious.

Asheville Chocolate lies in the heart of downtown Asheville, supplying locals and visitors alike with truffles, gelato, and other chocolate treats. The truffles are lovingly handcrafted with a traditional six-step process, and happy local cows supply the milk for their homemade gelato, which features traditional favorites as well as seasonal specialties.
